Five Year Plan

To help accomplish a better future and give myself targets to work forward to and improve a Five year Plan is valuable. Though this plan I want to set out the aims of year and the time it will take to reach them, these will then ultimately help with my future career.

The First Year-

For my first year I want to start at Nottingham City’s Films and TV Design BA course, this requires finishing of my current foundation degree in a pass level or higher. I want to start there as I think it will give me the best experience and starting point in my career and will best benefit me in the long run to becoming a production designer. I also want to take the year to improve my architectural and life drawing skills through both drawing of images and from in real life. I want to do this because it will help improve my understanding of the 3D and so help me with designing the work for my course ultimately leading me to get a higher grade and a better start. I also want to put in place a structure and new plan to my work routine to try and improve my issues with time management and start to irradiate the problem. This is because I want to be able to complete work to deadlines comfortably without extreme pressure and rush due to bad early time management; this will be a long process and span over the whole course. The last thing I want to work on is trying to be involved in as many group projects as possible; this will help improve my communication skills as well as other soft skills which will ultimately make me more desirable to employers. This is also something that will run through the whole course and will be a constant factor of improvement in my life in order to work towards being a production designer.

The Second Year-

For my second year I want to finish my first year on Design for Film and TV to the highest possible standard I can achieve then begin the second year, I want to do this as it will progress me to the end of the course the easiest and I want to achieve the heist grade in order to help get a better grade overall which will increase my employability at the end of the course. I then want to work on getting and actively taking part in placements at various places as a part of the course. I want to do this for a variety of reasons; firstly it will help improve my experience and soft skills which I can develop on the placements. And secondly as it gives me a chance to make connections and possibly get to know a company which could result in a possible job offer in the future; this is something I will practice till the end of the course. The last thing I want to do is begin working on another flaw of mind, indecisiveness, in order to do this I will use a similar method to working on time management by using schedules and research with various techniques to help improve it. I want to do this as it will help me in the future in a lot of situations and help me to be a better thinker and leader which will make me more employable.

The Third Year-

For my third year I want to finish my second year to the highest possible grade and begin my third year at Nottingham Trent University studying Design for Film and TV BA. I want to do this to both advance my course and my degree while also setting myself up for achieving a high grade which will make me more employable in the future so pushing forward my career of being a product ion designer. The second this I would like to do is focus more on improving my individual style and beginning to stand out more in my designs and illustration work by experimenting more in my work and researching styles. I want to do this as it helps to separate my work and help it stand out to possible employers as well as helping the work itself in create an art direction in itself. In hand with this I would also like to practice more traditional illustration in the sense of creating more 2D based pieces in a more traditional way unrelated to film and TV. I want to do this as it will help improve my drawing skill as well as help develop my style, two things that will be important to my main body of work and improving it as so making me more desirable to employers.

The Forth Year-

For my third year I want to finish my last year of my course to the highest standard I can possibly achieve completing my degree in Design for Film and TV BA. In doing this I will finish with a full degree qualification which I can then use to help find and job and become employed, and to the highest possible standard to help improve my employability. This brings me on to my second aim which is job searching and eventual interviews with the intention to get a job, I want to do this as soon as I entre my last semester at university and hopefully have a job by the end of the year in the aim of forwarding my career. Another thing I want to do is call up on previous contact I have made though the placements I did in hopes of possibly being offered a job and to do this in the last semester as the sooner the better as it give higher change of being employed. The last thing I want to do is to get a part time job at the beginning of the 3ed year to help financially support myself through the last year and afterwards for however long it takes to get a job in the industry I want while also providing me with extra experience along the way.

The Fifth Year-

The main aim of the fifth year will be to get a job, this is the first aim I would like to reach pretty early on in the year if the forth year was not successful at this, I want to do this to further my career in my chosen profession of Production Designer. I also want to build up my portfolio from what I created at university by adding better and more pieces to it, I want to do this to help make myself more employable. I also want to move at this time to somewhere better where there might be more opportunities as well as a new environment to help further my work and ultimately result in more possible job opportunities if I am in a more appropriate area. The last thing I would like to do is that when I get a job I would like to focus my attention to working hard and working my way up through the place I start to untimely end up as my chosen profession of a Production Designer, as to possibly call on contacts along the way and continue to put myself out there to help make it possibly easier to move up in the company.

Overall the plan looks at making the most of the opportunities as university while helping to improve some of my skill issues such as time management and indecisiveness, all in the aim of setting myself up for being very employable and eventually getting a job where I can move up the ranks until I reach my desired position of Production Designer.
